I went to bed late/early this morning - Adrian and I had been working on some script elements and doing some research on Carlin, the matte painter that just got ahold of us that we most likely can’t afford. We actually said that in our response back to him: “We’re ecstatic that you’re interested, but we don’t think we can afford you.” Time will most likely prove this to fade away as a missed opportunity due to lack of resources. What a shame.
After Adrian left, I tried to sneak up to bed (with hope that Chris had overlooked my absence for the last several hours) and had to confront (silently) while sneaking around the corner and sprinting for the stairs what’s become almost regular each morning since Mom died: my dad standing, weeping over the kitchen sink in attempt to get a drink of water.
I have to start getting to bed earlier so I can dodge that.
It would have been Mom & Dad’s 47th wedding anniversary today had Mom made it longer - Dad’s still counting committed to the belief that spousal death doesn’t necessitate the end of a marriage. I have no opinion. Chris has made the decision to make dinner for the three of us tonight (and any other family who wants to stop by) - one of my Dad’s favorite dishes that my mom used to make: meatballs and steamed potatoes. I’m looking forward to it because Mom hadn’t made it in over a year (since she got too sick to cook) and I plain don’t use the stove except for Mac & Cheese (and even then I prefer Easy Mac in the microwave).
Chris is a good cook - but caught some flack from her Dad on the phone today about the ordeal. “You’re making one of her dishes on the day of their wedding anniversary? Do you think that’s wise?” Christine didn’t flinch - her family isn’t exactly clear on how much of her is ingrained here, and how much of my mom is ingrained into her, now. If anyone has the right to make any of Mom’s dishes - on yes, the day of their anniversary - it’s Christine. And I’m glad it is.
Now, it’s just an issue of waiting to see how smoothly dinner goes, and how pissed off Chris gets when she finds out that I have to go do a Passage meeting tonight. I will promise not to be late.
