More Drafts than Time

I’m exhausted. It’s been a long day. After dealing with a day containing like one of the highest records for mold in October in history, Adrian came over and we spent about 7 hours preparing draft boards for Phil and Jeremy to use for reference tomorrow (and apparently ’till the end of time).

I can’t draw. That’s obvious – and became even more so tonight. But Adrian did a pretty good job in drafting out simple shapes and perspectives for the first like 40 boards (12 seconds) of the trailer. Regardless of our fighting about perspective, closes versus mediums and simple matters like decor for the K’veer dining chamber when officiate guests are present, we actually felt like we got a lot done. Now, we just have to see if the gents can take our basics and put together actual quality boards.

I don’t think we’ll be doing this again as about the time we finished we realized that this may be a bit of overkill. I get the feeling that we’ll most likely just start using my old point and shoot camera to establish simple references for perspective and frame composition and let the guys do their magic. That way we’ll be able to spend our nights in post of the animatic instead of prepping drafts for the next day of boards.

Tired.

  • Haha, I love the stick figures in the third one. ;) And the frame that says “people”…

  • Lol, nice drawings. The stick men are obviously the best. :)

  • it’s nice to see some story boards.

  • Woo, this is awesome! Thanks for sharing this with us, it’s quite exciting. :)

  • Well heck, that artwork is an interesting take on things. Do all video people do this? That’s cool :D

  • Wow, I miss Uru even more than I thought I did. I saw the sketch of Kerath’s Arch and thought to myself, “Oh, they’re shooting that angle from the Library Courtyard.”

  • I’m gonna be honest, having these drawings posted is a bit embarrassing. I’ve been quite frustrated with myself for many years about my drawing skills. It would have been nice to supply some of the actual final storyboards for the trailer, but alas… I used to be quite good, but I let myself fall out of practice and the results of such neglect can be seen above. I was seriously considering studying painting a drawing for the early part of my life, but then I discovered acting and all of my energy refocused toward that craft. I always find myself hoping that drawing is like riding a bike, but sadly it’s NOT. Oh well, it’s like I told Steven today, “You can’t be good at everything. Why would you want to be? If you were, the things you were good at wouldn’t really mean much to you”.

  • Well spoken.

    So… about that full trailer…
