PRESENTATION DAY FOUR

I went over to Patrick’s to review footage today. Things look great, except Patrick and Ryan apparently failed to notice that the battery was dying on the wireless mic receiver and there’s a bunch of audio dropout on my side of the presentation. He called me last night to tell me it may be a problem, but he thought we might be able to work around it.

We couldn’t.

I have no idea what in the hell they were doing, but it gets to a point in the footage where my mouth is moving and there’s absolutely no sound. Nothing. How exactly were we going to work around that? I think he was just trying to soften the blow on the phone.

My footage is, once again, trash.

This launched us into panic mode. We thought we were done and suddenly we’re racing back to the studio to shoot my side of things AGAIN! (for the third time!). Patrick and Ryan also said that they didn’t like my performance in the footage anyway. They thought I needed more energy.

I spent the remainder of the night listening to them tell me that I needed to have more energy. I felt like I was thrashing all over the place and talking way too fast. It seemed phony. Whatever.

Still haven’t gotten any sleep. I looked at the monitor as we were reviewing footage at the studio. I look like sh*&!

Then, we happen to notice that something odd is going on with the focus. “What’s going on with that?” I ask. “I’m not sure” says Patrick. And then we realize something…

In between segments we took a break. When Patrick and Ryan turned the camera back on, they failed to ensure that the auto-focus was switched off. Somehow we managed to shoot a large portion of my side of things with the focus trying to rack over and over again every time I move (way too much, but hey I needed energy right?). How do you not notice this? You’re sitting there looking at a 13″ monitor, for God’s sake.

We’re out of time. What we shot tonight is going to have to do. I’m pissed that after all of this effort to make a professional presentation, it’s going to look amateur and variably focused, and [my girlfriend] may have just been proven right.

The equipment goes back tomorrow. I should probably go to bed and try to sleep. Long drive ahead.
