For The Press - A Project Summary

Jan
23

We finally managed to hook up with Tony and Rand in a phone meeting today after a postponement due to Tony being out ill on Monday. We discussed the next phase of the website and hammered out some details for the presentation of content. As per usual, both Rand and Tony were very gracious. Rand seemed enthusiastic about the site offering a glimpse into the world of filmmaking and giving the public the opportunity to really see all of the ups and downs that come with trying to get a project off the ground. They expressed their support and trust in us as we move into this next phase of buzz-generation.

The one concerning bit of discussion (of which we have always been painfully aware) came toward the end of the meeting when we discussed the reality of the fact that Mystaria Film Group, LLC is not in possession of the rights. All of this development and buzz-generation could blow up in our faces. If we manage to draw the attention of some Hollywood big-wig to the Myst franchise, there is the potential that they may make an offer to option the rights. If this were to happen, it is possible that we’d find ourselves left out in the cold with little more than a “thank you” from Hollywood for making them aware of a fantastic opportunity. This is a risk we simply have to live with. It is our hope that our saving grace in that situation would be the fact that we’ve already developed the project and have written a script. From a business standpoint, it is always cheaper to go with something that is already developed than it is to start from scratch. Hopefully this would give us some bargaining power. Both Rand and Tony assured us that if an offer were made to them, they would do everything in their power to steer the optioners in our direction, urging them to take a serious look at what we’ve developed. They believe in what we’ve created from their fine work and would like to see our vision represented on the screen. We’ll just have to cross our fingers and keep moving forward.

Wow, that is a little scary. I’d hate to see all of your hard work come to nothing. Are you at liberty to say who holds the rights to a Myst movie at this point?

Deius, the rights have passed hands a few times. Currently, they reside with Cyan. This is how Rand and Tony can extend use (but not exclusivity) to us. It is scary, but we’ve learned to trust those guys over the last couple years. Hope for the best and we’ll disclose more later.
