It’s official. URU will not be returning for Season 2 as everyone had hoped; as everyone had wished (even to the point of misconstruing our little project as a prelude to the launch of the new season — all of those in-cavern debates).
I was at work, and Adrian called to tell me as he saw the post from Ricardo first. It’s sad, but neither of us are surprised. We’re just worried now that the eyes of the fans will fall on us with expectations to help regroup any Myst initiatives. We’ll see. Tall orders though. Tall..
The site is almost ready - but I think we’re going to give this a few days to die down. There are always tweaks to perform so I can use the time, and somehow it seems in bad form to launch details regarding our endeavor so soon after the bad news. The fans are going to be down about this.
I kind of feel bad since we were kind of in the know and all the while were watching the forums about Myst Movie on MOUL knowing full well that it was the damned child. As early as November, Tony told us both that subscriptions were not anywhere near the original expectations so the future of the game was unknown (and probably grim). He and Rand both hold concerns about the current status of the fan base as most gamers have moved onto first-person shooters. There’s always hope though, I’ve always thought — look what Nintendo has done with the Wii. Hell, my 71-year-old father can be considered a gamer now and sales are blowing away their competition. In the end though, it all comes down to numbers. EverQuest beat Ultima Online, WoW beat EverQuest, and they all beat MOUL. Maybe a MMORPG was the wrong direction for Myst the entire time?
Anyway, more coding to do. Hacking WordPress is fun.

“I kind of feel bad…” There’s no need to feel bad about knowing ahead of time, Patrick.
Imagine what would have happened if you had leaked the news of MO:ULs demise back in November. For one thing, Tony and Rand probably would have been p***** off at you. Plus, you would have been forever tagged as the bad news messenger, and there would have been no support from the fans for the movie.
