For The Press - A Project Summary

Feb
15

I was holding out a vague hope that the script would be completed by the end of this month, but last night didn’t bring any breakthroughs. It’s not looking like the goal is within grasp. The sad truth of it is that we’ll probably end up cutting the scene I’m stuck on. I don’t particularly like it at the moment and I’ve found that when a scene gives you this kind of grief, you’re most likely going to end up cutting it at some point in the process. The only trouble is that there is important character information being presented…

Ah, the struggles of the clichéd tortured writer. I apologize for banality of my post. There really isn’t anything too terribly interesting about writer’s block.

I’m tempted to pack it up and go for a walk around Charleston.

Don’t worry about it. Just keep on trying. You’ll get it right eventually.

Do this: stay up until 3 or 4 in the morning pondering said scene. Pretend you have a deadline of 12 pm that the scene HAS to be done, and just start writing SOMETHING. If you are sufficiently delirious from sleep deprevation, with all the details of the scene going over and over in your head, you’d be amazed the amount of creativity that can come about.

At least … that’s how it worked with me when I had a term paper to write in college that I hadn’t even touched until the day before. I wouldn’t have a clue what I’d written 24 hours later, but it was always good enough to get an A.

Besides, doesn’t some of the best creativity come from a bit of insanity anyway? =P

Good luck, Adrian. =)

At the risk of sounding mushy, I do want to thank everyone here for all their hard work. It definitely eases some of the sting of MOUL’s closing.

Good luck!

Whenever I get writers block, I find that putting whatever I’m working on, going outside and taking a nice long walk or bicycle ride always helps. Character concepts flood into my head the moment I start pedaling… usually so I have to stop immediately and write.

Gods, I wish there was some way I could help. I completely understand what you’re going through, as an aspiring writer myself… especially the pain of the possibility of cutting it.

Possibly there will be some other way you can present the information as well. Who knows?

Best of luck; and may the Maker guide your hand.

Thanks for your words of support, everyone. I’ve been writing for a very long time, and yet I still never seem to get used to the torture of being blocked. It’s just one of those things.

The good news is, when you finally get past the wall your writing is so much more rewarding. Ups and downs are par for the course. In the end, I wouldn’t trade a single bit of it.
