For The Press - A Project Summary

Feb
28

Well, the day was long, my nap was really long, and it looks like things are moving along.  After many, many servings of oatmeal, mac & cheese and soup I’m feeling much better.  It wasn’t as such all day.  Around noon this afternoon (well, yesterday afternoon, now, really) the whiplash kicked in.  Back was sore, face was sore and there I was trying to concentrate on some things at work and it just wasn’t working out the best.  From what it seemed like though, my absence from a really important meeting Tuesday wasn’t like this huge loss - nothing the company is going to fold about.  Now, I’m just trying to get my bearings back.

Some Updates

You’ll notice that many more entries are being folded into the blog from past journals that Adrian and I have been keeping.  I’m as well aware of the frustration in having to dig through every archive to see if anything is new, as it’s not revealed in the RSS feeds.  I’m working on a way to get these newly revealed entries into a separate RSS feed that focuses on release-date rather than chronological order.  We’ll see how far I can get within the RSS spec — the very nature of the spec may prevent me from doing what I’m trying.  In the mean time, be Myst-types and dig. ;)

Comments

Everyone, feel free to post comments, questions and even — gasp — complaints or rants.  Adrian and I knew well that opening up our personal lives in process of releasing information about the project would most likely result in ridicule every once in a while.  Our skin is thick.

Well, I for one have no ridicule for you fellows — I just think you’re awesome for keeping a blog to tell us all these interesting stories, both from life and the scriptwriting. Thanks for that.

Really, really glad to hear you’re feeling better, too! Keep that up!

The slow brew made for little sleep. My brain was moving in every direction, and after hours of flip flopping this came to mind…

Glad to see that you’re feeling better! No ridicule from here, I’m enjoying reading the day-to-day happenings of the people who are going to make this incredible project possible! :) *excited*

They’re at it again. Petrol bombs. You see, the thing you must understand is that we’ve always had trouble. Two summers ago, when I was seventeen, I spent a week trying to determine the earliest known date of religious conflict among the Irish. I settled on the seventh century late when a bunch of Irish prelates met with their opposite numbers across the water in Canterbury to discuss such crucial topics as - on what day should we celebrate Easter. Oh, and then there was the hair cut debate…

Do you really think it was that last cup (of which you only took about four sips) that did it? I’d say it’s more likely the four cups you had at Nick’s that did you in. I’m a bad influence. Sorry :/

Comment: I’ve learned that I don’t need to dig. I have people who do that for me. 8)
Question: When are you going to finish Myst? (*cough* Unbeliever. *cough*)
Complaint: You haven’t filled me in on anything secret yet. I am hurt. (I also have a cold that keeps one of my nostrils blocked and my coffee tasteless. *really sad face* )
Rant: My sweet-tempered disposition keeps me from doing that sort of thing. Isn’t this your lucky day? :)

I think it may have been the soup actually.

Obviously, if Adrian is still in the process of working on the script, it’s going to be some time coming. This is, by no means, a “done deal”, yet. They have many hoops and hurdles to pass through before this project really gets off the ground. As they said in the journal … they’re just two guys trying to get a dream to become reality. So far, the cards have been in their favor and they’ve gotten the support of Cyan … but much still has to be done.

I’m sorry … it may be my over protectiveness coming out, but it annoys the heck out of me when people come on here doubting whether or not they’re serious simply because there isn’t more actual movie info on the site. As has been said, this is a “grass roots” effort started by two (talented) guys who wanted to see a Myst movie finally made. And they’re starting at the very beginning … with an idea, some talent, a bit of luck, and the makings of a script. And they’re being nice enough to let other fans in on what they’re doing. So to have people come in here and doubt their sincerity when they don’t have to do any of this to begin with … when all the hard work they’ve been putting into it could be ripped out from under them at any moment by a big studio stepping in and deciding to go another way with it … is, to say the least, a bit insulting.

So yeah, for anyone here expecting a movie in the next year or so … I hate to disillusion you, but you’re going to have to wait. This is the journal of two guys’ journey to hopefully making a Myst movie a reality …. not an update site.

They never claimed otherwise.

Tira if your comments were directed at me, you should know that I often joke and make remarks that are sarcastic/ironic. I’m not expecting special-amazing-stuff right away and I am sorry if I didn’t make it clear enough that I was joking.
I have read other entries than this one and if I wasn’t interested enough to know the state of things I wouldn’t even bother to make comments here. ;)

I do apologize if you were only kidding or playing around. I do that too quite often. :) It’s just (as Patrick can attest to, since he reminded me that this wasn’t the first time I’ve done this) that I tend to get my dander up whenever I think someone is attacking him. And, after recent posts (not just yours … so it wasn’t aimed directly at you), well … my dander was up. Hence the post. :)

Yes, I will admit it … I have a temper sometimes. And I am not nearly as diplomatic about it as others can be … so I often let emotions take over before anything else.

Damn, and here I was dreaming about a PR job … guess that’s out of the question. :p

TBH the irish conflict was started with the reformation of the church with Henry the VIII. At that point ireland was immediately polarised between protestants and catholics, the insuing mayhem in english history over a few queens and kings who just couldn’t make up their mind (as far as the general population was concerned anyway) on what religion they should be eventually led to the problems in ireland we have today.

No it’s okay. I have a feeling that I overreacted a bit too. It’s just that I’ve seen that kind of response a few times before within the Myst community and it put me on my defence.

Diplomacy? Meh, just make it up with cookies later. :P
