For The Press - A Project Summary

Mar
21

… have been greatly exaggerated.  Yes, it’s true.  Patrick goes missing from time to time.  Occasionally, it’s necessary for me to trade my time on the site, on the boards, on the project for very needed things (like sleep).  It’s one of those Achilles’ heels that I come to face daily in life; one of those complaints I make after spending 20 hours on a variety of projects both personal and professional and find that with just a little more time I could complete things to my definition of perfection (if only required slumber wasn’t in the way).

Most people like sleep.  I dread it.  What a waste of time.  Like peeing.  If I wasn’t interrupted by the mediocre requisites of, you know, having flesh and bone - I think I could get a lot more done.  Oh well.

Tonight it was the web that got me, or rather lack thereof.  After returning home from the office to find that AT&T had decided that my internet would go missing for the evening, I napped.  And napped hard.  I called Adrian upon waking to alert him of my now-finalized temporary absence from the world (read: why I hadn’t answered his call or responded to his messages) and his response was clear - obviously.  Probably because he didn’t receive my (now) daily expected call asking how the script was going.

I have to cook stuff for the family this weekend.  Ugh.

I agree that sleep is a waste of time, but take care of yourself. Personally, i’m looking forward to ending my 72 hour day tonight.

Remember we need you! Don’t die!

I (don’t really) regret to inform you that dying (and anything else harmful to your regrettably flesh-and-bone person) is forbidden. At the very least for the time being.

Yes, please don’t die on us now! Perhaps when your duties have been fullfilled then you can contemplate exiting this mortal coil. :)

Also, sleep is good - then you can dream! Dreams bring ideas - Ideas are good for a movie. ;)

I’ve always agreed when it comes to the sleep thing. It’s confounding, really, that in order to function we must spend such a percentage of our lives out of commission. That said, I really can’t handle being sleep deprived- I’ve never been one for all-nighters. In order to do your best work, make sure to stay on a good schedule! :)

Patrick: if you’re crazy enough, you could try the Chronobiology Research Institute’s überman strategy - how to get by on 2 hours of sleep a day.

Patrick is cooking? Just how good of a cook are you and when do we eat?

the lack of sleep is getting me to… 2 jobs, school and a hobby, all in computers are eating up all my time :P
i would try the 2-hours-sleep-a-day trick, but i’d try it on vacation, not at busy times like this.

Sleep is a pain. Honestly, I agree it’s a thing to dread.

If I could go a day without food, sleep or *nature’s calls*, I think I could do so much good for the world.

Yet the world hates me.

Meh, whatcha gunna do _–

“Patrick is cooking? Just how good of a cook are you and when do we eat?”

Although Patrick only discovered the art of cooking a few years ago, he has found that he has quite a talent for it. He makes a vegetarian lasagna that is, by far, the best italian dish I’ve ever had. Sigh. There was a time when I was the chef of our relationship, but no longer. The student has become the master.

By the way, you’re all crazy. Sleep is my absolute favorite part of life. I find myself wishing I didn’t have to be bothered with things like life so I could just sleep all day. :)

You hate to sleep? I love sleep. My dreams are WAY cooler than real life. Peeing, on the other hand–I’m with you there. Well, not LITERALLY. That would be really gross. Also weird and probably uncomfortable. What I mean is I agree that peeing feels like a waste of time. I’m going to stop typing now.

I second that, Adrian. FAR too many Type A personalities here. :p

I have to agree with Adrian here, on the subject of sleep. I adore it. Sleep is delicious.
:D

“What I mean is I agree that peeing feels like a waste of time.”

As has been mentioned elsewhere on this site, peeing is actually very productive for me. I have my best ideas while making water. :)

I like sleep. Today I slept for eleven hours. All day my brain has been hurting from too much sleep and it totally ruined the finale of the long program even though Adrian (Schultheiss) totally swooped in and set an awesome technical score. *proud*
So yeah sleep is good but not in the middle of the world championships in figure skating.
I’m an evening person so normally I only get six hours or so of sleep and I tend to value those unconscious hours pretty high. But not today.

Sleep? What is that?

Oh, right, the bit where I lose track of what time it is around 4 AM or so. I need to sleep more than I do, but it’s easier said than done…hooray for drugs! (The legal kind anyway.)

I like sleep enough, I just wish that on occasion I could go without it. Like when I’m chilling with awesome people for a whole weekend. or when I absolutely must get this project done.

But on the other hand I also like to be able to just shut down for a while and let my brain go do whatever it wants.

Well, when I become a robot/god/immortal I’ll see if I can’t work on that. something.

One of my favorite lines by Bill Cosby is “I love sleep like a good steak.”

O.o I like sleep…but not during the night….for some odd reason since I was a wee lass i have always gotten hyper around night time, according to my mom i used to sleep a lot as a tot…I might be making up for all that extra sleep by not wanting it now…man am I weird or what? o.O
