For The Press - A Project Summary

Apr
26

Three very long days. But, we have it. One note — already corrected. Adrian’s sitting in the armchair in my living room eating a brown-sugar Oatmeal-To-Go as I write this. He says it’s very good. It’s his happy-time treat, I think, as this is kind of our celebratory moment.

There’s always an initial panic when sending things to Cyan for approval. I experienced the brunt of it this time, maybe because the majority of the release was written by me and Carla, and it was like our souls sitting out there. “Guys, you’ve got to be kidding me,” is always the feared comment. It’s a looming threat that at the drop of a hat this entire endeavor could go up in a poof via a polite cease and desist letter. But we have to trust that Cyan wouldn’t do that, at least without adequate warning of some kind.

I’ve spent the last several days panicking about the end of the project - or the correct method of dissemination of the release, whichever came first. And, Adrian spent the entire time reassuring me that I had nothing to worry about. Stress from work probably played a part. Sometimes when things aren’t going well in one place, it can bleed over - and it seems there is always something in the background somewhere to mix the colors.

But, sure enough Tony got hold of us late this evening to gave us the approval and we’re now ready to go.  I had wondered what he was up to being in the office so late on a Friday night (what’s Cyan up to?) but I’ve rarely gotten specific details.  These guys always have something in the works.  They’re more secretive than us…

We’ve spent the late, late evening (early, early morning) going over the video we took of the interview the other day, and making the final alterations for the release going out Monday. We figured we’d release it here first, early - so that everyone could see:

Nicely done. A lot better the mine but that’s not surprising as you are professional writers. Reading that gave Mee goose bumps.
Hmmm I wonder what Cyan is upto? Roll on Monday I say.
Be well Mysteriacs

Its so nice to see that you guys, the scriptwriters, are actually human beings ^^ thats so true

Congratulations, congratulations! I’m very excited – for you, for us fans, for Cyan, for everyone. Hooray for Patrick and Adrian! Hooray for Cyan!

On a Myst-related note, any chance you guys will be traveling to Boston for Mysterium this year? Maybe work in some publicity there?

The interview had a very nice tone in it. I think it’ll help people who are not so familiar with the project to realise what it’s really about. Not a rehash of the games, like you said, but a complete movie with a strong story. Good job!

That wasn’t the interview, it was a press release.

“…the D’ni who live in a large cavern at the center of the Earth.”

Done for simplification purposes, I suppose? It does sound more adventurous than “a few miles under New Mexico.”

A few miles under the Middle East

There, fixed.

Also: *claps* Nicely done, sirs~

YAY!!! Finally, the world will know. Although, I do kind of like our little private community here. Well, soon people will come, drawn to something they do not understand… Well done, my friends!

Publicity- A word deriving it’s meaning from two roots: pub being a place where people congregate to drink, and elicit meaning to draw a sympathetic response. In other words, publicity=receiving a toast at your nearest bar. :D

I come here every couple of days to see how things are progressing. I’m so excited for you guys as well as for myself and my family. We are all Mystics and we look forward to the next incarnation of our favorite story.

The ending has not been written…

“I had wondered what he was up to being in the office so late on a Friday night (what’s Cyan up to?)”

Am I the only one giddy for UU2 now?

Wow, congrats guys! This is great news!

teh nifty

Wow ^_^

It’s true though, you guys are really taking an enormous project like Project Passage and finding a way to take the immersive world of Myst and put it on the big screen. It’s more than a dream, a hope, or a reality. It’s actually kinda a mix of the three, ain’t it?

congratulations !

great work guys!

That’s great! Hopefully the quote about the project being about the “backdrop of the myst universe” will help dispel some preconceptions.

Keep up the good work!

May I ask what kind of traffic this site is seeing? I’m curious. In three months we can ask again and get an idea of how it’s going…

The site’s traffic is inline with the fact that little knowledge of the project exists outside of the persistent Myst fan-base. We’ve had tens of thousands of unique visitors since launch, and enough ad revenue to (perhaps) support a streaming server for video in the coming months. No tracking is being performed on the RSS feeds. We should see a lot more in the coming weeks.

Just now read the press release - very well written! Excellent choice of quotes, BTW ;-)

http://siteanalytics.compete.com/mystmovie.com/?metric=uv tells you all about the traffic. And look: this site is in the top million!

that is fantastic. something the directors of a masterpiece would right. very well done. congradulations!

Very cool. I guess this is how I get to keep tabs now. I guess nearly 14 years of friendship amounts to having to read a blog to see how you are doing. that and leaving cr***y posts.

ooooo, 1k :D

Yay. I’ve been trying to publicize this site wherever I can. You guys DEFINITELY get to Mysterium
