P.S.-- if your animatic is first-grader school project quality, then I recommend you simply not post it at all. If it's so rough that you're concern it will taint the view of your project, then don't risk the blow to your creativity that is accompanied with criticism. If you like what you've made, then don't make excuses for it. And if you don't like what you've made, then don't promise to release it and then change your mind. Do what you feel comfortable with, not what you think the community wants-- not this early in the game.

I'm a musician, so I know what it's like to let someone listen to a rough cut of my music. This is essentially the same. It's easy to try to explain to them why it sounds so bad (even if it doesn't sound bad at all) and why they should keep an open mind. Unfortunately, the more you do that, the more they will come to expect something crappy-- and the crappier they expect it to be, the less impressed your audience will get. I say, just post the journals along with the animatic, MAKE SURE people know it's just a work in progress, and you'll be fine.

We want a window into your heads, even if it's vague and general. If a picture is worth a thousand words, what does that make the animatic? ;)

Just do it already. I had to scrounge around my external hard drive to find it.

The memories came rushing back though - which was good.

I think somewhere on this site it says that it is based upon the book of Ti'ana (prequel to the first book that rand wrote related to Myst which was book of Atrus)

I agree with what everyone here has said. Release the animatic, release the articles about the animatic, ignore the nay-sayers, and just give it to us already! The suspence is killing me! lol.
Myst fanatic, remember, this is not a movie based on a game. If I remember correctly, and tell me if I'm wrong, it is based on a book or books. Right?
I an waiting in not-so-quiet anticipation. :D

well, cyan liked it, and they made the game in the first place. If they liked it, and they made the best game series in the history of man, and you guys are making a movie about it, why wouldn't we like it?

It is kind of funny to think that the animatic worries me so much. It was the primary piece of material that garnered the support of Cyan. It also resulted in the interest of some others in the industry...but more on that later :)

We know that the animatic is a draft, not the final product. Don't worry! I'm certain several of us are creative people and know how the process works. We're excited to see how far you've gotten, but even more excited to find out how your project develops.

Don't worry about the nay-sayers if there are any. You have a vision for something wonderful...don't let a few *potential* negative comments give you doubts!

And even if there are criticisms, use them constructively. But don't worry about pleasing everyone...its NEVER gonna happen. Just stay true to your vision.

That's okay, it's an animatic - not a trailer. I understand your trepidation though, I mean, I've shown works-in-progress to people before and they seem to think it's an invitation to critique...
... Much like we seemed to feel the need to critique those two pieces of script you decided to release to us... sorry about that!~_~;

You can actually tell a lot from a pre-viz. What sort of camera work you are shooting for (pun intended), mood, scope. But yeah, in my experience in the creative field, it's easier for the creator to understand the vision represented by a rough work than it is for an outside audience. For that reason I would rather the articles about the animatic come out first. I think it would help explain your goals and increase everyone's understanding of them.

Dude, don't sweat it. I'm sure we've all seen pre-viz productions on DVD's before and know what to expect. Pre-viz are only supposed to be a basic interpretation of a scene. Anything too elborate and you're putting way too much effort into it. And besides, if it met with Rand's approval then it will be more then good enough for us.

Not that my opinion really counts BUT that being said, I've seen this animatic and as a viewer found it quite captivating. If it keeps my attention it must be good ; )

Boy, I can't wait to see how you'll react to the theatre reless of the motion picture? Visioning Adrian packing his bags and moving to the wilderness for a while until all the new found fame blows over! lol

Just show it already and stop procrastinating. Please and Thank you.

I'm not sure you should worry about it. So you may get some people that say "that's lame, I could do better!" but their opinions don't count. The people whose opinions matter understand the purpose of animatics and will have appropriate expectations.
