For The Press - A Project Summary

Aug
24

Just hit the 24 hour mark of no sleep…

The nights have been treacherous lately.  The amount of sleep I’ve been able to partake in as of late has been dwindling exponentially for the past week and a half and has finally culminated in this - NO SLEEP AT ALL.

I have many reasons for this lack of slumber, I suppose.  Relationship issues, script issues, work issues, etc.  Oh well, that’s life.

You’d think that I would have gotten plenty of work done on the script with all of these extra hours in the day, but sadly…no.  I, instead, have been occupying myself with  tossing and turning, broken up by the watching of the highly addictive Video Copilot tutorials by Andrew Kramer at videocopilot.net.  If you’re into After Effects, you should really check this site out.  It’s tons of fun and very informative.  Patrick has purchased the DVD package and has also been completely immersed.

Rest assured, Dedicated Fans, I have been doing a lot of mental work on the script.  It’s actually part of the tossing and turning mentioned above.  Every once in a while I hit a bit of a snag where I’m not quite sure how to muscle something into what I need it to be story-wise, but I always figure it out eventually.  This too shall pass.  I will say this:  Poor, poor Veovis.  Poor Veovis.

Blah.  Today is going to be a long one.  I am going canoeing with “Stephen” (ya know, that kid I do case management for that I promised to tell you more about but never did?)  at 2:00.  I have no idea how I’m going to make it.

The good thing about canoeing is that it can be very relaxing. I don’t enjoy it much, but it can be calming. Just don’t fall asleep on the water! And don’t be TOO hard on my poor Veovis!

On a side note, my mom just finished The Book of Atrus and The Book of D’ni. She called me here at college to tell me where she was and discuss the books. XD I’m not making much progress with my re-read of Book of Ti’ana, so I think I’ll lend it to her this weekend when I’m home and she’ll finish it in maybe a day. This is a woman who read the sixth Harry Potter book in one day but NOT in one sitting. Woman’s a beast!

Don’t hit any white water.

In your state, it would be just your luck to get stranded somewhere.

Be vewy vewy careful, Adrian =P

On a different note, don’t worry about the script too much. We’re all here for you, and we’ll wait as long as need be.

Why did you start to sound like Stan Lee there for a sec?

Rest assured, Spidey Fans …

Oh yay! I’m glad we finally got to hear more about that kid. How’s he doing?
Have fun with your canoeing in about 40 minutes!

I love working in after effects, and I found videocopilot a year ago. Their DVDs and tutorials are awesome! \m/

I hope the Video Copilot tutorials are more interesting than the Total Training tutorials for After Effects 7 are. They were really boring. (Actually, their Photoshop CS2 tutorials were fun, just not After Effects 7)

Heheheheheh >D poooor Veovis~ Why is the boy so much fun to torment?

Lack of sleep + canoeing & script thinking = Snoring = Great ideas

Poor Veovis? Why is that a tag? What’ve you done to him? LOL Usually when I say stuff like that about my characters I have an evil sense of glee…

34 hours and counting…. This is the longest I’ve gone without sleep since we shot the presentation (see Hell pts. 1-4).

I did not get the memo about going canoeing. (Imagine my surprise when I click onto the website and see my name haha!)
Must be a different Stephen.
He must also be awesome. :P

No! You can’t sleep! You’ll miss the closing ceremony of the Olympics! :)

PS - They were cool, btw. Not as cool as the opening ceremonies, but still. And that damn “I love Beijing” song was catchy! *goes to look for a copy somewhere* :)

O-o

Oo…kay…

>_> <_<

*hums* Bejing bejing! *hums*

See? Even Nek’rahm agrees it was catchy! :p

poor veovis huh? does he have like this really cool fight with the philosopher or something after they sent all the infected bodies into the ages? does he have to watch as his age he wrote is used for such an evil cause? come on, I know Veovis gets the short end of the stick! Are you going directly according to the book? or are you adding something else cool?

I wonder how many readers are trying to crack the code at the end of Adrian’s last post ;)

@ Thomas,

The thought crossed my mind!XD

I believe Veovis’ and Aitrus’ fates are switched at the end. I will not spoil the book for those who have not read it. ;)

@Thomas: At least this one.

That videocopilot site is great! I could get into doing stuff like that! Hope you’ve gotten some sleep by now!

So, here’s the thing I wrote during my “Edith Wharton in Fiction and Film” class becuase I wasn’t paying attention and was instead wishing I’d brought my copy of Book of Ti’ana:

“So, I know you guys are busy, but I have some questions about the visual aspects of this film.
While the story of Book of Ti’ana is important, to me, the visual aspects of the D’ni ‘verse have always been paramount. Indeed, when I speak of Myst to many of my non-fan friends, the first thing they recall are the graphics. The games have a reputation for having stunning visuals, for indeed being the top of the top in that regard.
While it’s clear that you’ve given a great amount of thought to the characters and the story (and the questions the story asks about isolationalism and xenophobia), I must wonder about the city itself.
The visuals used must astonish. They must make the heart soar even as the opening bars of the original Myst theme does; the way that seeing the isle of Riven for the first time does.
And what of things like the visual differences between Aitrus and Veovis’ Ages? I imagine that their approaches to writing are very different (particularly considering Veovis’ status as a Master) and that their Ages give insight into their personalities – even as the drastic differences between Catherine and Atrus’ ages show the differences in their approaches to the Art. And what of A’gaeris? What about his Ages are so disconcerting, disturbing, off?”

So yes, just general discussion. I’m curious especially since I haven’t seen much about this. I mean, there was the animatic, but that didn’t really give much insight into the visual style you guys are going for

Wait - Visuals? Um…This is a radio drama, isn’t it? Wait - “Motion Picture”. Oh crap! Um…yeah….I’ll have to get back to you on that ;)

Haha, ok. I would like to have a discussion on what you have in mind though, if you have a moment.
