A little over a year ago, Adrian came to me one evening to show me something he had heard about on NPR’s Fresh Air earlier that day. It was something that I was very skeptical about when he first told me about it, but, because I had a little bit of remnant connection with it, it was related to the film world, and it was so darn funny — I ended up getting hooked and started following it pretty closely.
What am I talking about? Felicia Day’s webseries The Guild.
How this webseries has grown over the last couple of years is pretty phenomenal. Not only in its target, reach and popularity, but also in its root artistic and technical quality. And as it, in many ways, is still independently financed by Day & Co. (regardless of the Microsoft licensing agreements), they are actively asking for the public’s support.
Apparently, during the last several months, Day has been working closely with Jed Whedon (of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and brother to Joss Whedon of Buffy, Firefly & Dollhouse) in developing a promotional item to push the popularity and reach of the forthcoming Season 3 of The Guild. What resulted was the creation of a catchy pop single and music video that spoofs the latest dance track crossed with the world of MMOs — and it’s simply fantastic!
Last night, after another session of script editing, cuts and analysis, I showed Do You Wanna Date My Avatar to Adrian, Yale & Jason with the explanation of wanting to put a quick plug into the Myst blog. Day and her team are asking for people to spend the $1 to purchase the track on either iTunes or Amazon — and I feel it’s well worth it. Maybe not necessarily to own the track — but to instead offer support to a group that is learning, growing and showing the world how quality entertainment can exist and blossom outside of network television.

I’d do anything for Felicia Day…
