For The Press - A Project Summary

Nov

Ever heard of buzz? It usually starts out small; someone mentions something to someone and the ball starts rolling. The Myst movie is creating buzz in Hollywood. And it’s picking up steam. With all the new developments I made a trip to South Bend to meet with the rest of the team and had a very productive time.

Much of our time was spent working over the details of the new draft of the script, addressing and eliminating problem areas, cleaning up the plot and defining the characters. So much has happened in the last few weeks with the rewrite and it’s very encouraging to see what we as a team can accomplish with some hard work and dedication. Everyone is very positive with the direction we are heading and we all believe that this rewrite will be even better than the first. As Adrian mentioned in his post he took some time off to clear his head and prepare for the big push, but he’s back on board working as hard as ever and it’s great to see how excited he is with what has been developed in the last few weeks. I think this goes for all of us: spirits are high! Special kudos to Patrick, Yale, and Jason who put in many, many sleepless nights and hard work to lay the groundwork for the new draft. Good work!

I hope that in a few weeks or so we can reveal some of the things we have been working on. Perhaps some of the concept art, and maybe some of the re-write too, I think you guys deserve a little something special.

I must say I really am excited for this. I’ve been following for a while, but never bothered to say anything.

As a Myst fan since I was about six or seven (I remember humming the piano pitches with my Grandpa as we tried to open the book for the Selentenic (sp?) age)… even though I’m 16 now :)

I cannot wait to to see more of this! Keep up the good work (I’m sure it will be fabulous)

Buzz is good….buzz is very good.
Isn’t it wonderful when all of your hard work starts to pay off?….although I’m sure you still have a long way to go. But hurray for progress!

Awesome job. That last post had me worrying for a bit but it seems you guys are victoriously chugging along! Congratulations on the progress so far.

Yay!
That worked much better than the anti-depressants I was contemplating taking for the last post…
I can’t wait to see the concept art- stalking will occur upon failure to deliver

Awesome guys, great to hear things are taking off like that.
Hope that buzz keeps getting louder.
You have the respect of long time MYST fans everywhere.

OOOOOH! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE some concept art! I can never get enough concept art! Seriously, that would be total win.

also, I’m very pleased to hear that things are going well! I look forward to hearing more good news when you can give it to us!

Hurray for the buzz! Kudos to all of you! Keep up the good work :D

Wow, finally! This sounds great! I\ve been following your blog for a long, long time and this was the most exciting post so far :) Keep up the good work, it’s highly appreciated!

ooo a special, thanks. If I had to choose concept art or a piece from the script, I would go on a piece from the script. I would like to see how you implemented the action request.

Good post.. not the cookie recipe I was hope for but.. Anyway glad to hear things are progressing positively.

I like buzz.
I like that Adrian’s back on board.
I like that we’re excited.
I feel much better.
(Thumbs up)

What an encouraging post. Thamnks for the update Isaac!
BUZZZZZZZZ!

Yay! Both for the “hey the project is going pretty well”, and the possible appeasement of our desire for concept art and script portion goodies.
-
“If I had to choose concept art or a piece from the script, I would go on a piece from the script.”
-
It all depends (for me). Who’s making the concept art, and what scene/object/noun would it be of? Some things would be less exciting than the script (for instance, concept art of a hat), but others would show a lot more of what is planned (and what style, and all) than any one portion (that they’d show us) of the script.
-
“Good post.. not the cookie recipe I was hope for but..”
-
Maybe the portion of the script will be:
“What do you see?”
“I see flour from Vanenbochen Age, and water, and eggs… all the ingredients I will need to bake a batch of cookies.”
“You let the outsider bake cookies! It is perverting the blood of our race!”

*summons bees?*

Seriously, I’m quite glad to hear that this project isn’t dead. I’ve been following this blog ever since it was a bunch of mysterious puzzles that someone on the Uru boards stumbled across, and I’m glad to see it’s going somewhere. Also glad to see that Adrian has found his muse again and that the project continues! Good luck, everyone; and break a leg.

Nice to hear this! :D

Awesome. Buzz is a really good thing. It would be really col to see some concept art too. :-)

Glad to hear you are all feeling good about how things are going :)

since it was a bunch of mysterious puzzles that someone on the Uru boards stumbled across
If you call that “stumble” then yeah. :p
*vacuums Isaac for concept art* Mwahahaha!

Man Issac, that’s incredible to hear!

I know you guys are pretty much sworn to secrecy now that Hollywood’s involved, so news like this is welcome and appreciated.

Whenever you guys can get anything up is fine by us. Just let us know time and time again how things are coming.

Good luck, we’re all behind you!

They say no news is good news, but actual good news is even better news! I’m always thrilled after seeing these glowing reports. Keep it up, Mysteriacs!

@ Nek’rahm: Good to hear from you again! It’s been a while.

BUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ-what?-ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
ZZZZZZZZZZ-I can’t hear you over all the buzzing!- ;)
-
It’s good to hear that everything is rolling along nicely… and I’m not surprised that people in hollywood are catching the awesomeness that is myst! And i would love some new concept art! Maybe you guys could give us some concept art on Kerath’s Arch, or maybe of one of the ages…. maybe even the age that Ti’anna and Aitrus write together….
-
p.s. Gloa… you deserve a big pile of cookies for that post!    :patrickjudgingface: :ridiculous:    :ridiculous:

Man, I feel like a bad fan. I’ve been faithfully checking this site every day and the one day I don’t check it theres a new post. Now I’m coming in late to the posting frenzy!

I would very much like some D’ni cookies………..yes I would.

Buzz, buzz, buzz, oh how I’ve missed Myst buzz!

Heh, yeah man, I’ve been away for quite a while. Mostly schoolwork and studies smothering my limited social life.
-
I have a quick question for you guys though, as I’ve never really seen any projects of this size before.
-
What exactly are you “not permitted” to tell us? By this I mean, what parts of the project are you not legally allowed to update us on.
-
I just thing that if people knew what you can’t tell us, it will give us an idea of what to expect.

@ Nek’rahm: The discussions and negotiations with studios and producers have to be kept under wraps until things are finalized. When they are finalized we will be adding a very exciting post! :D

A very exciting post indeed.

Oh good. I was getting worried from not hearing for so long.

*Spastic excitement*

It’s so great that you guys are getting more attention! I would love to see part of the re written script too. Plus that would assure some of the worried fans that the script isn’t totally different from the books.

I vote for concept art!!!!!
While a piece of script would be cool also, I NEED A NEW WALLPAPER!!!
I still have the Myst Online Uru live wallpaper back from the good old days.

This reminds me, we never got the full version of the red image that was a part of this sites kickoff. When can we get the red image? From what I can see, and from what I remember, the red and the yellow images were different in more than just the color. For those of you who are interested in seeing what I mean here are the images I pieced together from the all the puzzle pieces we were given:
Yellow: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/mister_cloak/moviecompyellowwithoutline-1.jpg
Red: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/mister_cloak/moviecompredwithoutline.jpg

Updates are great… but buzz is greater! Now… which studio is it that we should be flooding with fan mail supporting you?! :D

Nov 13 2009

It’s been a while since I checked in on this site, and I’m glad to see things are moving along smoothly. I’m excited for you.

Awesome! It’s great that things are being set in motion, and yes, we would love some concept art! :P Keep it up!

My wife and I were so bummed to find out Dollhouse was cancelled. There’s a dozen CSI / Law & Order spin-offs and rip-offs and the cancel a show that was completely unique and engaging. I understand that’s how the business works, but it would be great to have a unique movie like Myst. I enjoy spuerhero and disaster flicks as musch as the next fan, but they do get very repetitive. I suppose Myst could technically be considered a genre movie, but not really. I don’t know how you guys are trying to sell it; calling it a video game movie could be helpful or a death sentence depending on who you’re talking to. It sounds like the “giants” you’re talking with have a good understanding of what you’re trying to do and who the movie would appeal to. Keep up the good work!

How exciting!

I personally vote for concept art, but that may just be my desire for awesome desktop wallpapers speaking. :D

Nov 14 2009

@Donnie: Wait!! Dollhouse is CANCELLED!!???!!

Was the something special something you meant to put in the post or just a thanks? Either way, I’m finding it unbelievable how you guys took the project and really did a serious job on it. It’s almost like that one kid you went to high school with being someone other people, not just you, know by name.

That’s great!

Very good to hear! Glad to know that the lack of updates meant good news!

Happy days. :)

Nov 15 2009

Hooray! Great News! Concept Art sounds great! Parts of the script sound even better ;-) Yay!!!! Happy, happy, joy, joy…

I hope this goes well. You seem to be working hard - thanks

I love how we’ve gotten so many new posters recently. That’s buzz right there.

@AndyBlooShoes: It’s funny because I’d say the majority of people have been following the site from the beginning, but only just found reason or courage (the buzz) to post- like me…

Seriously it feels a lot longer than 5 days ago Isaac mentioned script and concept art, my utter impatience is about to burst out and eat people…

Artoveli
Nov 16 2009

I’m utterly stoked to hear this news! I’d still kind of like to hear it from Adrian’s mouth cause he was so down in the dumps before, but nonetheless this post has been a soothing balm.XD

Concept art would be nice…

It still suprises me how few people know what Myst is. Even if you talk to someone who plays videogames a lot. I’ve talked to a few people that have heard of it (only one person who used to play it), but I can still only count them on one hand. You’d think people would know about an infamous game like Myst, or at least know it as the game that launched CD based gaming. Hopefully Myst will become the biggest thing once the movie comes out! Just as long as it doesn’t end up as the new Twilight. You know, Aitrus being the new Edward, Ti’ana being the new “whats her name” (not a Twilight fan). ;-)

@ balckmesaboy: From the extensive research we’ve done the Myst brand is still VERY widely recognized and fondly remembered . If I remember correctly you’re still in your teens or early twenties (I’m sorry if I have that wrong!) and that is younger than most of the original Myst and Riven fans who are now in their late 20’s to mid 40’s. That age group is by far the most populous in terms of fans, and while they may be dormant they will respond very positively to a Myst movie. We’ve found that almost every one in that age group has either played Myst or know’s someone who’s a big fan, they’re just not active fans until a new Myst product comes out.

P.S. *whispering* we’re going to give them that new product and it’s going to blow them away!

Flowerpower
Nov 17 2009

Issac: New Product? What is it? Now you guys are just being mean with all this secrecy.
Blackmesaboy: Hopefully it will be a world wide blockbuster and hopefully some exec. won’t turn it into some teenage chick- flick. Ewww…. just thinking about a vampire Aitrus and a lycan Veovis .

Flowerpower: New product = Movie :D

Do these guys look like Stephenie Meyer to you? It won’t be a teenage chick flick XD *laughs to shake off thoughts of vampire-anyone-in-the-franchise* Hopefully it won’t be marketed as one, either. XD
As for fellow Myst fans, they do exist in my experience, but you’re bound to find them in the weirdest of places. Core gamer demographic? Nope, never heard of the game or they’re all “eeew Monkey Island was 100x better”. Random guy you meet on the street? Possible, very possible. And very happy to geek about the games, even after 10+years since the last time they played one. “Dormant fan” is a fitting definition indeed.

Flowerpower
Nov 18 2009

Issac: Opps… what a “duh” moment :-)

Ahah, I also had a “duh” moment too.

When we say “dormant fans” all I can think about is a dormant volcano. So when the movie comes out, loads of fans will come charging out of a volcano and into movie theaters! :D

Yeah… I fall in that category having just turned 27 myself, lol. All of my friends know about Myst because I’m the crazy one that has hung onto it!

Uh… I sometimes play the original Mac version on this lovely Tangerine iBook of mine! In fact, maybe I play the whole thing tonight since I’ve got nothing better to do on a Saturday night, lol!
