Foreword by Rand Miller

Project Passage represents an unorthodox approach to making a Myst movie. As you all know, here at Cyan we’ve shared your passion for a theatrical release motion picture of the Myst novels. We’ve had plenty of ups and downs – rumors and surprises, and a lot of disappointment. But we still have vivid, big-screen mind-movies of the scenes, scenery and characters… and we always get excited by what we see.

When Patrick and Adrian sent us their first creative proposal for Project Passage it lingered for a while. When we finally got around to watching the DVD proposal we were impressed by the work they had put into it, but more importantly, we were ignited by their passion. We suddenly realized that making a Myst movie was not about Hollywood and studios and cigars and agents. It was about passion. So we gave a couple of non-Hollywood types a call and told them we should go for it.

Project Passage did not begin with the disingenuous handshakes of martini executives over burrata caprese at Madeo, but with some real-world, tap-water, grass-roots determination for something that just has to be done. It’s an amazing thing to witness a process like that – a “bootstrap” kind of operation that by sheer force of will and fan excitement manages to pull off something big.

And here’s the fun part – You’ve been invited to witness and be involved in the process – to be an intimate part of a journey to accomplish the impossible. We’ll all be part of every step that Adrian and Patrick take along the way!

It’s time to try to make a movie! The process is going to be crazy and frustrating, invigorating and surprising, infuriating and – most of all – rewarding. In the end, we might all get to sit down with some popcorn and smile from ear to ear. But the big point is that nothing happens unless we try. So let’s try to do it – and let’s try to do it right.

We’ll all share this journey – after all, that’s what life is about.

  • Best of luck to all involved. Remember that you have a lot of support.

((Cigar-wielding Hollywood-types are best left out of most any project. 95% of the pap the Hollywood churns out does not impress me in the least.))

We are with you guys till the end of our life.
Exactly what you wrote Mr Rand Miller (“In the end, we might all get to sit down with some popcorn and smile from ear to ear”) is the reason that many simple people like myself from all over the world (yes Greece also) follow you all these years.Because your way to find a home is trying to make your dreams come true.
    (ours also :) )

  • Wow! What news. Best I’ve heard this year. I wish you all the best and I’m pre-ordering front row seats as we speak.

  • This is great news!
You try, but I am sure you will succed.
Thanks Rand for sharing this journey!

  • This is fabulous! Break a leg! (but not really). You have my full support, and understanding for the crazy frustration. Ah ha ha, yes, I hear you there. But it will be worth it. How exciting!

  • Right there with you, guys!

  • Wow this is absolutely awesome. Excellent message Rand and good luck to the guys making it. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen! :D

  • Best of luck, and thanks for the uplifting news after what I’ve run across today. Always willing to help for this great place – and great group of people – that this represents.

  • “Foreword.” ;)

Anyway, best of luck! Also, I’m glad to see the phrase “of the Myst novels” associated with this project. I feel like an original story would be a waste of potential, and any attempt to translate the games themselves into films would be terribly misguided, so a Book of Atrus movie would be the way to go, and it’s great to see we’re more or less on the same wavelength. :)

  • It’s finally happening! I couldn’t be more excited!! Remember we’re all here for you.

  • This is absolutely spectacular! I still can’t believe, that I’m here reading this…
Rand and all of Cyan, that verifies and reinforces all my hopes and beliefs and perceptions… I am sooo glad and I wish you and us all the best of luck and everything needed to lead all of your dreams and plans to a success…
“…by sheer force of will and fan excitement manages to pull off something big…”
Everything is possible like that and “…nothing happens unless we try … We’ll all share this journey – after all, that’s what life is about…” Thank you Rand … Jana :-)

  • There are many who love MYST as much as I, but I really don’t believe any love it more… so I will cautiously hope for this to really happen. From my first days in Bevin I have longed for more, and I’ve been away too long. I hope you can bring me back to MYST.

  • Excellent!
I’m so excited I can barly convey it in words. It’s wonderful to see Rand, and Cyan persue the worlds that they have built in the Myst universe. I”m a huge fan and will continue to support Cyan and Myst in every venture that they release!

  • I found the site through a typing error and not thtough the actual puzzle, but I’m so happy the movie is being made!

  • WOW this is exciting!!! Can’t wait to see the results!!

  • “what this “Project Passage” is and how they intend to convince a studio to make this movie?” — thus far you’ve learned of the concept, that fact that things are ongoing; we’ll be releasing more info about the strategy as the journal evolves and fans continue to ask questions..

  • Lets do this!!!!! I hope that all goes well and anything we as fans can do tell us because you know we’re here and i feel that we’re the best fans out there!!!

Assuming all goes well (knock on wood) I will drive however far and camp out however long to see this movie. If you have need of actors, I have no experience, but I have as much passion for the Myst universe as anyone! ;-P

  • Ok. You’ve convinced me. I’m in. I can just imagine the possibilities. And I can imagine a lot!

  • Well, all I can say is that Im all for this, when it comes time to spread the word know that I will tell everyone I know about this and bring as many people as I can to the theater to see it.

Best of luck to the whole project. I know I will be watching this very closely

I wish you all the best and look forward to this project with fervent admiration :)

  • This is absolutely fantastic news! Personally, I would’ve gone with The Book of Ti’ana, but if you’re going with The Book of Atrus first, that’s great!

  • Perfect, simply perfect news. Yes you are encouraged by us all. Go for the Dream!!!

All I ask as a fairly new sojourner in the lands of Myst and Uru is that you repeat at least, the majesty, that you Rand, and Robyn have brought and set before us in all you have done that is Myst.

    It’s a real dream! A concious dream!
I’m an Italian film and TV independent producer and distributor, as well as a Mystmaniac since 1996!
I would give everything to help a Myst film project!
    I think Myst was/is/will always be a revolution! ;-)
    Let’s go ahead together!

With all the best of me,

    Simone

  • Just tell me what to do!

  • Yayz a Myst film! Finally! I’m so happy! Is there a release date yet? IS it gonna be in theatres? IMAX? Oh, that’d be soooo awesome!!!

  • Very good news. I’ve always thought that Myst has potential for the big screen. So many possibilities, I won’t know where to start. Best of Luck! I hope you can create a big screen version of Myst that will captive the world, like it did for those of us who played it. I fully endorse this project :>)

  • Enormously great news! I’m so happy!!!
And if there’s anything I can do to help I’m there! :-)

  • Hard to believe it, a Myst movie! I can’t wait.

  • Huge thumbs-up — this is fantastic! Count me in for the ride!

  • I’m so excited about this! I’ll be rereading the Books, starting tomorrow :D

Three thumbs up to everyone participating in this project, I’m looking forward to it more than you can imagine.

  • I finished Myst on the DS three days ago, after ten years or so since I first saw Riven in a small vg shop here in Italy and desperately fell in love with it. I couldn’t buy it at the time – I’ve been longing for it ever since. And the Myst games have managed to shape my imagination even from afar, just by looking at their covers, glimpsing at the occasional screenshot. It’s always been part of my life even though it wasn’t, in a sense. I arrived in Riven yesterday and it’s like a childhood dream come true – no, it is a childhood dream come true in and by itself. Today, I discover this. And this time, I fear that I am indeed dreaming, because a non-Hollywood film supported by Rand himself is more than I could ::ever:: have hoped for.
Just another fandom tale, unnecessary perhaps, but a happy one in the least. Just to let you guys know that your project is bringing so much joy to fans old and (very very) new all over the world. Keep up the good work.

Again, this is beyond awesome. I’m no producer like Mr. Morandi up there, but should you ever need something from Italy…

  • Tom Bombadilreply

I will now read the Myst Novels. Please make the movie as wonderful as the Riven, Myst and Exile are. Don’t forget to incorporate the good things that URU Live has.
Just don’t “try” to do it. Do it and forget the “try” part!

  • Wow- I can’t believe this is really happening. I’ve loved Myst since 1996, when I was nine years old. Ever since that time, I’ve been dreaming of a Myst movie. It sounds funny, but when I was a kid going to the movies, if I saw the beginning of a trailer that could even possibly be construed to be something like Myst, I’d become excited. Because of that, I’m so so happy to see a project like this. Full support from here. If there’s anything you ever need help with, I, as I’m sure are the other fans reading this, am completely ready.

  • *breathes*

    YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have just made my entire week! :) I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  • /me runs off to stock up on popcorn and goobers

  • Kostas Bakelasreply

That’s good news! I’m happy to see, that the plan is moving forward. I can’t wait to see a first trailer of the “oncoming” movie!
Keep up the good job fellows!

  • I just got to thinking recently about how absolutely wonderful it would be if “The Ages” of Myst could be put into a movie! I was overjoyed to see that you’re actually attempting to do just that! I’ve been hooked on the games and can’t wait to see Myst made into a movie. If I ever hear of it coming out, for all to see, I shall be sure to see it. I wish you all of God’s blessings in your endeavor. Keep up the good work. “Yahvo be with you!”

  • Maybe the ending has not been written! My Friend.
I will wish you much success.

  • Ideas for story: will it be the Book of Ti’anna?

  • Wow!!! this is great!!! :D I can’t wait!!

  • I can’t even express how excited this has made me. I thought the Myst experience would just be a happy memory for me to relive vicariously through the friends and relatives i’ve shared the games with, but now I find that the ending truly hasn’t been written!

“The process is going to be crazy and frustrating, invigorating and surprising, infuriating and – most of all – rewarding.”

That above all put a silly grin on my face. What better way to go about making a movie than the exact same process we all went through to finish every game? Anything you need, let me know. I’ll be with you every step of the way!

    Mr. Miller, thank you.

  • /cheer /cheer /cheer

  • This is amazing, it’s like this is the decade of overdue movies. Die Hard 4, another Indiana Jones movie, a Rambo sequel, a new Star Trek movie next year and now this.

    I can’t wait.

  • My only fear is that you will produce this like a independent film, I am a HUGE fan of Myst, and anyone who has played it, and is into it, like many of the folks here :D . Would understand that the story of D’ni is a REALLY REALLY good one, and you could really sell it if you know what you’re doing. Its nice that you’re having these fine gentlemen do it, and not to undermind their talent, I hope this becomes publicized and put out there as a “real” motion picture.

No DVD’s on websites or anything like that, because, much like the movie cloverfield can show you, publicity can be key. I understand as well that, that publicity costs money (being in theater myself :D ), but I don’t wanna say to myself, ohh Myst is coming out? Ohh…. not only do I want to know when it comes out, I want the whole country wondering what these ads are for. See if you CAN get any advice from the “bigshots” in the movie bussiness too.

I want Myst to be anything BUT an independent film.

On the plus side, I love how you’re basing it off of Book of Ti’ana that’s an excellent choice, and I’ll DEFINETLY be there opening night. Love Uru, love Myst, and I do wish you guys the best of luck, make it the greatest it can possibly be, no cutting corners, certainly didn’t do that in Riven :D

  • Darko: Thanks for the thoughts. I have a few things I’d like to address. The first is the independent film issue. I’m sure what you’re referring to is low-budget independent with self-distribution. That is just one end of the spectrum of indie film. It’s worth noting that, technically, the LotR trilogy was an independent production. At the time, New Line was not a studio, but an independent production company and therefore anything they released was an independent film. This is sort of changed up a bit by the recent announcement that Warner Bros. is swallowing the company. They will no longer be considered an independent company. Just wanted to make that clear. Independent does not automatically mean low-budget or bad.
As far as the intentions for this particular project, it will be a major motion picture. Regardless of where our final financing comes from, be it from an “independent” studio or a major studio, we will not settle for less than is necessary for the production, distribution, and marketing of this film in world-wide release. Fan film this is not. :)

  • Thanks for clarifying, those are really reasurring words, and I back you up all the way :D I wish ya’ll the best.

  • I’m am so excited to finally hear that there will be a Myst movie, I’ve been waiting for this for years. I haven’t completed all of the games yet or the novels, but from what I’ve experienced thus far I am hooked, and hope that the movie is as visually stunning as the games have been. You certainly have set the bar with the games and novels, let’s hope the movie can uphold or surpass that bar.

  • AndyCloseEyesreply

    Oh.
    My,
    GOD!

I can’t even remember how old I was when I first played Myst! Now I’ve finished all five games, the Myst Reader and was there for episodes 7-9 of Uru Live! Ever since I read the books, I have been DREAMING of a movie! Is this really happening? Is this really real?! I can hardly think straight – I’m so excited! What will the movie be about? Will it be based off of one of the chapters of Myst (games or books) or will it be its own story?
    (Prays for Book of Ti’ana)

  • WOW! This is absolutely amazing! I’ve been hoping there’d be a Myst movie for years now! I’m really happy Hollywood is being left out of this… seeing as how they have a habit of butchering novels when they make them into movies…

I am thoroughly psyched for this!

  • Brandon Griffithreply

What are you doing about the D’Ni Language? Beside that, I think the Movie is going to be great.

  • Myst started me on the adventure game ride and it has not stopped. I love all of the Myst series. and have gotten others involved. I have read the books, played the games and searched for anything about a movie. Now it may be happening.

  • I hope every success to you!
May this film be for film making, what Myst was for gaming.
    A revolution!

  • Not since LOTR has such a following existed, with hard work, this can’t miss. I have some contacts with the movie industry here in Shreveport, La. if we can be of any assistance.. lots of movies made here of late, due to lower overhead.

IMHO.. the themes need to be classic ones, as these are eternal. Why did D’ni fail? Probably it would have been a division of culture, a progressive (lets share our technology with the surface) vs. conservative (must keep this a secret). As always who is right? Which is really evil? Its this tension that is the stuff of great drama, intrigue and passion.. and relates to what humans experience even today… and this story is ripe with possibilities.

  • “I have some contacts with the movie industry here in Shreveport, La. if we can be of any assistance.. lots of movies made here of late, due to lower overhead.”
    _
Oh yeah, you guys have converted your old convention center into soundstages, right? I heard about that. Brilliant move. Thanks for the offer for support. We’ll see where we are when the time comes :)

  • Are you guys gunna use any specific area of Green Screening for some of the scenes? Team Revelation’s green screen at UbiSoft would be cool… but a lot of fans don’t like Ubi I guess :P

  • I don’t know if the “master minds” behind this project are even reading these posts but if you are… Way to go! I currently run an indipendant film company and was thinking that someone should make a Myst movie (and not me!) i am glad to see others with my same desire and who are going forward with it. Keep Up The Good Work.

  • THIS IS ASTOUNDING! I am so thrilled to hear this will become a reality! Ever since I read the Myst Novels, I have been turning the possibility of a movie over in my mind…to see what it was like to dig those great shafts! The immense machinery! The intricate relationships of Atrus’ family brought to life. To anyone who hasn’t read the books, do it! They will give you such great insight to the history of D’ni that you can’t get from just the wonderful games alone! Cyan, Rand, Patrick and Adrian may the making of ProjectPassage be blessed beyond your wildest dreams!

  • We are amazed and thrilled to learn of this project and to see that it is being taken quite seriously by those involved. The pressure to “do it right” must be a tremendous burden to bear.

From all of us over at Beyond Uru, we wish everyone involved all the best of luck. Know that there is a world of positive energy flowing your direction from the infinitely passionate fans of Myst.

  • Sara (aka Eternity)reply

I seriously can’t believe this. Myst has delighted, intrigued, puzzled and entranced me since my dad bought me the first game in 1998 when I was 10 years old. I’ve always wished for a movie since then, even more so since I got my hands on the books three years ago and finally finished up the games. This project sounds so exciting and especially…dedicated! A movie like this can only be made by fans, to have anyone else do it would detract partly from the magic and fun of it.

Adrian and Patrick, I wish you all success with this project! If I can help in any way (even send cookies), let me know and I will!

Rand (and Cyan), your blessing on this project speaks volumes to every Myst fan out there. Thank you SO very much!!

My point is – I have years of experience in digital production techniques, compositing, matting, scanning, asset management – an assortment of skills.

  • The Myst games are like a drug – the more you play, the more you need for a fix. Boxers say boxing is like that. Porn stars say sex is like that. And drug users say Myst games are like that…;)

Good luck with the movie. I wish I could help.

  • I hope very success to you. Good luck from Italy

  • Awesome stuff! I’m almost in tears of hearing that news. Tears of joy, that is! Patrick and Adrian, I wish you all of the best for the next months to come. Keep up the energy! I read the 3 books about 5 years ago, but I’ll will surely re-read again. I played and finished Myst, Riven, Myst 3, Myst 4 and Myst 5. Now I am struggling through “URU: Ages beyond Myst”, but I’m making good progress. Who would have thought that the Myst game in 1993 would become such a huge addiction and success. My goodness….

  • A Myst movie with the support of Rand Miller himself? Allright! There’s a lot of great mythology in Myst, and I’m happy to hear you guys are making a movie based on it. The places you go in the games are wonderful to look at, and I hope the movie has the sort of atmosphere they have.

  • drakonez duskmoonreply

I’ve always been an avid Myst fan since age four. It came out the year I was born! The series is the stuff of legend as far as sucess in sales goes. Hard to imagine what I would have ‘Myst’ out on. I wish Cyan Worlds and Patrick and Adrian good luck and I give my full support to this undertaking. Rand Miller and Cyan Worlds really out did themselves, but I bet it will look even cooler on the silver screen.

    P.S., Cool logo animation

  • Wow! I am so excited about a Myst movie, and I hope this project goes all the way up to the Big Screen! I hope the look of the games is somehow integrated into the movie, and I hope they get unknown actors so they can really make the characters their own, if that makes sense. I hope the story is also not lost within the making of the movie, and if it is really to be based on The Book of Tiana, then that’s awesome! That is a good book, and a good entrance into Myst for viewers who have not played or read Myst. I can not wait, and you have my full support!

  • I cannot wait until this movie comes out! I am obsessed over myst, I just got done reading the book of Ti’ana, this is going to be great!

  • I don’t know and I don’t care to remember how I got to hear from these news. All I can say is I am so excited about this project! I will be as patient as I can. After all, its been 15 years or so running along all Myst games. I wish you all the best of luck, and I assure you that even in a remote country like this (Guatemala), there is as fan eagerly waiting for this dream come to life.

  • All I can say is, way to go guys! If the movies are produced, I hope they become Box Office Hits! 8D

I remember many years back i e mailed you asking if you’d ever consider making a movie. and now while i was googling and searching for that ever elusivie 4th book (not the compedium) that i heared of sometime back i caought glimpse of this site, and i am chuffed to bits that i see you are making a movie. can’t wait to see it..best of luck

  • A Myst movie would be fantastic! How about some more Myst games!
There are countless worlds and ages to be explored why stop now?
I can only hope that someday; in the future the series will be revived.

  • Looking forward to it,the game gives great feeling when playing and im sure the movie will do too.

  • From the moment I finished the book of D’Ni I have hoped for a movie adaptation of these novels. I am not a big reader of books but these were different. Often when playing Myst and Riven I would want to explore more into each world. I wondered what life there would be like beyond the games. The novels helped me achieve this.

The very best of luck with this project and I can’t wait for the finished product.

  • I don’t know how I’ve been so out of the loop on this!?!?! I just now find out? I am a failure. But one darn excited and happy failure!!! I’m always looking forward to anything Myst related. Way to go everyone involved. Time to go catch up with it all…

  • Nehvir, don’t feel bad. I think I just finally figured out we were making a Myst movie about a day and a half ago. :)

  • Wow! I don’t even remember how on earth I stumbled across this information today, but I am super excited that I did. I was just browsing the internet on my lunch break and somehow the idea to check cyanworlds.com to see what they have been up to. The next thing I knew, I was watching that amazing presentation you both made to Cyan! I had to pinch myself. =) I feel exactly like Nehvir…where have I been?? I have had this stupid grin on my face ever since I found out. I think my co-workers are looking at me funny… ‘Why is SHE happy at work…on a MONDAY?!?’ They should be happy too!! Myst is going to be a movie!!! *Pinch* I still can’t believe it! You guys are my two most favorite people in the world right now!

I hope you guys went out and celebrated the news!

  • I just found out today and I’m practically crapping my pants with anticipation

  • Man. Oh, man. Oh, man.

If this movie is done right…oh, man. That’s all I can keep saying. I can’t wait to see the Myst universe on the big screen.

    Man. Oh, man. Oh, man.

For over 15 years, I have lived and breathed the Myst universe, the Ages of Riven, and beyond. I cannot wait to see this film.

    Oh, man.

  • Oh my! I just found this out less than 5 minutes ago – i’m so excited!!! With you every step of the way guys! ^_^
I’m hardly daring to breathe i’m that excited! I’d never even heard of any of the Myst series until i picked up the first game some years ago in a shop whilst searching for “something different” to get my teeth into and you know what? – I LOVED IT!! I was thrilled to learn that there were more and now i’m so happy that a film is being made!! I’ll happily drag everyone i know to catch it at the big screen many many many times! YEY! XD
Thank you all sooooooooooooooooooooooo much for creating Myst and also making this movie possible!!

  • Lee you make me smile. I share that enthusiasm!! Since I was about 8 years old I have belonged to the myst universe. Particularly Riven :)

Rand, glad to know you’re on board. I would, to be honest, be extremely worried if I knew the movie was being made without you. You and the whole team have my support!! Thank you, and can’t wait to hear more!!

  • F@(K(NG Awesome. Just straight up bad-assery is what this whole project is. Best of luck. The Myst universe represents the finest examples of gaming and storytelling presented in a challenging but rewarding way. I would bet that I was not the only nerd in 3rd and 4th grade who would number his pages in D’ni. For those familiar with The Office. If gaming had a “Finer things club”. The Myst Universe would be the only thing in it.

  • That’s pretty hardcore guys! Making a video game-based movie…
    Wow.
    What can I say?

    Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I can’t wait to see the Myst movies. I assume there’s going to be more than one. In the meantime, what about some more games (without the timed puzzles). I can’t for the life of me, understand why they stopped making the games. The Myst saga is a remarkable work of fiction. What irks me is that I didn’t think of it. Here’s to the cinematographic and box office success of the Myst movies!!

  • I have no idea how I missed this. I had to have a friend who’s a fan, but not as big as
I am, to tell me about this just today. I just started to read Book of Atrus as a new
years resolution and I discover there’s gonna be a movie? That only makes me more
excited to read the book. The moment I heard your not gonna involve hollywood on
this really made me happy to a extent I can’t measure. Most hollywood adaptations
suck and only exist for revenue of which get milked for every penny they can get.

I’m not gonna hope this movie is gonna be great. That would be wrong. I KNOW its
going to be great. As long as you guys don’t get brainwashed by money, and keep
thinking of the fans, I will always admire both Rand and Robyn Miller and those
involved with this project. Myst has always been about the adventure of exploration
and learning not just about the ages, but about what you are capable of as a person.
I can see the movie reflecting that idea through the trailer.

Good luck guys, and I hope you see this through. Your gonna make history with
this movie. I can feel it.

  • How is it that the Miller Bros. can’t seem to put a foot wrong? Cutting the multimillion dollar overpaid big wigs out of the picture is the best idea to date!
Lets face it – the Myst worlds don’t exist on our plane so why put the likes of Tom Cruise who is ‘as common as mud’ in the Myst Movie (pardon the reference to Tom) but Myst has always been original, unique and uneaqualled – looking forward to unknowns making a break into new realms like never before!

    Move over Harry Potter.

Full support from New Zealand on this score ( I think that covers the world from top to bottom now.)

Hopfuly sites dedicated to MYST like URU Obsession will also have a strong impact twords the influence of it’s production by its fans. If this is ligitimate don’t screw it up. Times like these I think I should have been a director. We’ve all seen film adaptations and direct game ports like these fail miserably and humiliate long time supporters and some cases a death blow to the franchise. By ones given the blessing by a company to put thier franchise in the hands of a eger visonary. Falling sort giving detail or attention to areas that deserve it, adding thier own flavor to the formula with inconsistancies adding confusion dulling the orginal appeal. There is nothing conventional about MYST and nothing less than ture story telling mastery to make it sucessful like the ones I remeber taking me to whole new world of discoveries feeling like a kid again.

  • As an old huge fan of MYST worlds i always thought that it MUST be a movie about. The world MUST have a way to live inside this MYST universe, to travel and think,to dream and fly.. The movie is an excellent idea for this ! I can’t wait to see it and to spread it !! MYST worlds are for me a fine collection of arts like music, design, architecture, decoration, colours, costumes, develop and more that turns into art what isn’t defined as. I almost consider my home decoration to be influenced by MYST worlds. So keep on guys, you have our support and love. Give us another linking book to beauty our lives……

  • Can’t wait. Hope the movie will be as good if not better than the games and books.
I’ve played all the games three times since i got them and the books i’ve read twice each.
I love the MYST saga. Thanks to every one who helped create it, nothing compares, and i don’t think anything ever will.

  • I really hope that the MYST movie will be a quality success as it was with John Harrison’s Dune!
I still play Riven’s soundtrack in my mind all these years, and wish on day I could find a real linking book to an Age magical enough like the one the Millers have created long time ago! :)
Best wishes to all the team. Please, create a masterpiece…

  • This is GREAT!!! As, nowadays, nearly everything is possible with more or less help of CGI, the long-awaited MYST-Movie finally has to come to life! PLEASE!!!
When I image me sitting in the cinema (or home cinema) watching the REAL and official MYST Movie and feasting my eyes on the beautiful worlds of the MYST universe, I could get wet eyes… :-)
BUT: Rand has to act as Atrus – like he did in the great game series before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope that the movie will be realized and published very soon…
    MYSTerious greets!

  • I love Rand and Cyan… one of my favorite companies of all time.

  • Andrew J. Strohmanreply

I’m highly excited that there will be a movie off of the books I’ve read all of them and loved each one. So a movie about their events would make it open to even more people to fall in love with the myst world.

  • James D. Masseyreply

I agree that it all should be done with “passion” and not over the top like a typical Hollywood film. I wish the best of luck to all of you involved in this project. I will continue to wait patiently for what’s to come. Unlike most films and stories, the great ones take time and patience. Good luck…

  • OMG.

I never thought this would happen. WOW!
I can’t wait! And I hope the other two novels are made into films after this one’s success. Wouldn’t mind another game in the Myst universe either, guys. Nothing else is going to come along and fill that void.

  • This is just incredible news! We (the fans) who supported Uru and all that it could have been…who wistfully check the game shelves wishing to find something that is even a tenth as rewarding as Myst, Riven or Exile…who never stopped believing that the Cyan team created more than just a video game…we’re still here…and thank you.

  • Great news I hope it gets made, but just a thought as Myst was the first game to push the new CD ROM technology how about a Myst movie on Blue ray DVD live footage but also the viewer could play it like a game on a PS3, with all that extra storage space you could really push the high quality of the visuals like Myst IV with the vast gaming area like MYST II Riven, just a thought or rather a wish ;-)

  • Curtis Kimblereply

WE ALL CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally, a chance to see the most influencial game in history to make history again! Best of luck Rand, we are all waiting with our hopes held high!!!!

  • I am truly hopeful that this project gets off the ground and into the long and laborsome working of a feature motion picture. My Woman and I would be overjoyed and so will our future child. Please keep us informed of the progress as it comes about and the Ages await!:)

  • I can’t wait to see the product! I have no doubt you guys will create an amazing movie which does Myst justice.

  • OH MY GOSH!!! CYAN! IM your biggest fan. I mean i love your games. Make a myst game for the movie. Dont stop. Pleas email me. That would be awsome.

  • Fletch Magnusreply

The Myst universe has been a comfort of mine ever since I played the first game as a kid, and i`ve always loved the idea of a Myst movie. I mean come on, its an absolute no brainer!!! Superb characters, an amazingly deep mythology, comparable to classics such as star wars or lord of the rings, not to mention the endless possibilities of worlds (just like the books) This could not only work, but could hopefully even spawn a series of movies. I wish you guys the absolute best of luck with this project… Make us proud…

  • Oh my goodness. I can’t believe this. Myst a movie? I’m screaming inside with so much joy. Best of luck to you guy’s I really hope the movie turns out to be great.

  • haven’t been hearing a lot about this lately? I’m really excited if it does come to fruition. This article is a little old and this is the first I’ve heard of it. I really really hope this happens. Myst is my favorite

  • I have to admit, I’ve been a fan for several years now, so when someone told me Cyan was struggling (still don’t know if this is true) I rushed over to the site in panic. And I found this….Oh, happy days! A Myst film! I always thought it unlikely, and felt that it wouldn’t do the games justice. But being in the process of reading the Book of Ti’ana for the first time, I can see exactly how this will work. Brilliantly. Just reading about the excavation of the Great Well gave me shivers, seeing it? ….You’d better make sure this movie’s avaliable in the UK!

  • I’ve played the video game series but haven’t read the books… still I am anxious to see what you creative people come up with

  • I’ve read the books and played Myst I, Riven, Exile, Uru (Path of the Shell), and am about halfway through Revelation. It is SO exciting to see that a movie will be made! I love the story, and I think it deserves a movie.

  • The genuine excitement I had when I saw this is difficult to express properly. I’m so very pleased that you’re looking to expand the Myst universe into film; for me it has a scope and a potential equal to and perhaps even surpassing any of the great films we have to date. Also, to my mind, it couldn’t have better people at the helm. I firmly believe in you and the project, and my Myst-lovin’ soul is with you all the way – I wish you the very best of luck!

  • Shawn Lazarosreply

Whoa. I just found this now, in 2010, and am filled with ecstatic delight. A Myst Movie!

I really hope that this does take off to the heights that we hope for. I have been a Myst fan since I was 14 (I am now 30), and have been following the games as well as the books.

All the best to all of the folks involved in the project!

  • You know, talk is cheap, and to make a movie from scratch, with no backing is hard. I don’t know if any of you have heard of an independent fantasy called Ancanar? The trailer looks amazing, but here’s the catch…pre-production started in 1999…with nothing to show but a trailer. But that’s just an example.

I was a film major at Emerson College, and have dreamed of directing the movie. Though it’s not mine to make, I wish all the best of luck and if you need a PA or AD, I’m there.

  • I have just discovered this and I’m just a hurricane of emotions right now. Myst has been and somehow still is such a passion for me, and being a film director working with the same energy on my first feature film, after a couple of shorts and a bunch of years working in the media (long enough to get the experience, short enough not to want to kill myself), now I discover it’s actually going to happen. A Myst movie. And I say “a” instead of “the” because this could become the biggest saga of all times. I am excited, but also dying of jealousy. I wished I could be the one directing, god, who could do it better! Somehow secretly I always saw myself doing it. I am sure you will do an awesome job. Best of luck, all the luck, this just must happen.

  • Oh my gosh dude, this is incredible, I’ve played all the games and I’ve always been in awe with the story line THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!

  • First, I’d like to say how excited I am at the idea that this may actually be coming to fruition after all of these years. MYST is something that, for many of us, is much much more than a simple story, or game. We’ve involved ourselves in social circles around these works, and over the years have tried our best to keep the community alive despite unsurmountable odds. So it’s with no surprise that as excited as I may be, as high as my emotions run as of learning of this project, I also fret that something truly wonderful for so many of us in the Myst, and specifically UrU community, could be done a great injustice. So please, to the filmmakers and writers, the actors and directors: Please be aware of what you’re getting in to by taking on the subject of Myst. We only get one first chance at this. Please understand that for a certain minority of people out there, this means more than you can imagine. Understand this, and you will have the potential to create something truly terrific, truly magnificent. The kind of art that has the possibility to last for generations, and breath new life into a world, an underground society that not at all unlike the D’ni, has been on the brink of extinction for a very long time. With that said, welcome Adrian and Patrick to our family. I know that you’ll make us proud.

  • Ack. Adrenaline rush.

I loved the story behind Myst so incredibly much, that honestly, I would probably cry upon seeing it in movie theaters. I had started to work on a screenplay myself, found that it was already an idea, stopped writing it, only to find – to my disappointment – that it had ended again. It is honestly the only game I have ever played where I found myself interested in the backstory and wanted so badly to bring the game to the mainstream, not for the games themselves, but because even the characters strike emotion within me.

The page, my friend, the page.

  • I love the myst stories, and what better way of reaching people than a movie? :) I hope it goes well and that evrything works. After all, Myst series is my great passion.
