What is Project Passage?

As Rand Miller states at the beginning of his foreword, Project Passage is an unorthodox attempt to bring a film based on the Myst universe to fruition.

The working title “Project Passage” was assigned to the effort as we began taking our first steps toward our goal. We needed to ensure the complete secrecy of our work, and so, “Passage” was born.

Why complete secrecy? Well, there are good reasons for that, but to find out what they are you’ll just have to follow along as the journal unfolds…

  • Bravo!

  • Whatever the film will be about… I support you in it. :)

  • Wow, this will be great to see, how exciting!

  • Yay!!!!!!! I can’t wait to see what happens next and help if I can. :D

I know deep down in my heart it will definitely be worth waiting for!

  • I fully support the idea of a movie. The best part of the myst games were the mini movies of the characters. I always looked forward to those moments. Many I replayed over again just to watch them. From the maniacal Saheedro to the devious brothers, to the fun loving Yeesha, and of course, the genius himself, Atrus. I can see this movie as something the world would really enjoy. The main focus is the beauty of the graphical world, tied together with the storyline from the games.

Movie making is an art form itself. Myst is the world’s best adventure games because of the beautiful graphics and the mystery of unraveling a storyline. I spent more time looking at the amazing graphics in addition to playing the game. When I first started playing Myst 4, Revelation, I was in tears as i was totally blown away by the incredible graphics and the the live action sequences. It brought the Myst worlds to life for me. A far cry from the slide show version of the first myst.

My hats to you who are willing to work on this. Do NOT let Hollywood screw this up! Let Cyan and You work together to make the movies as great as the games themselves!!

  • Robert The Rebuilderreply

I take it that the working title comes from the name of the Myst short you worked on, “Passage to K’veer”?

  • Wow! This is amazing news! I’ve been craving more Myst for a long time. I’m really excited about this news!

I remember reading somewhere that Rand wasn’t going to act as Atrus anymore… I don’t know if that’s correct or not, but, if the movie’s plot includes him, wouldn’t it be great to see the Atrus we all know and love on the big screen? Maybe Rand could begin a new acting career! *chuckles* I’m so excited. I want to go play Riven or something now….

  • I can’t wait to see the movie. I hope this is going well on production. It be so nice to see something new about Myst even if it is not as a game. This makes me want to back and play through all the Myst games again. It be nice to see this on a big screen in a theater.

  • My brother and I are die-hard Myst fans since the beginning. As much as we love the games, we love the stories the most. The idea of a race of people who write links to fantastic worlds is too rich and exciting not to explore further. A movie would only add to this rich fantasy world, and maybe even invite more friends along this journey .

  • Having just finished Myst V (my only Myst completed hint-free!), I am thrilled to pieces that this won’t truly be “the end” of the Myst world for us fans. I had heard a while back that perhaps a Sci-Fi Channel ‘Myst’ series would be created, but a film (or several!) would be just as awesome. If you need someone to compose some music, I’m available ;) Good luck!

can’t wait to see you guys come out with this one

i’m totally hooked on your way of imagery and creation keep up this awesome work

    for runners of tomorrows creativity

    WOO HOO!!!!

  • I’m very impressed by the quality of the work so far.
Press on the western edge is searching for you Paul.
Call me for the scoop. Love!

  • There isn’t a Myst fan amoung us that is not on the edge of their seat or behind you in this effort to bring Myst to the big screen. Most who know and understand the full scope of the Myst stories can easily realize its potential to be among the great movie’s with sequels. Your Cyan presentation of those who would be a part of the project shows true commitment to the scope and vision necessary to make a Myst Movie to the caliber to which all would expect it to be. The timing is right for this to become reality given what is being produced to entertain us today

  • Just found out about the project, and I couldn’t be more excited! The Myst novels rank at the top of my fiction list, but I’d pretty much given up hope of ever seeing one of my favorite fantasies go to the big screen. Make something amazing, guys!

  • I have been hoping for a Myst movie for years, since I first bought the game as a geeky 6th grader. I literally just gave my brother the three books (he finally submitted and let me explain what the premise was, and he loved it) and was saying that my one modern cinema gripe is that they never made a movie of the series. I looked on facebook to see if there were any groups (for the game) and I saw the group for the movie, and I almost yelped. Hahaha. This is so awesome. I’m very much looking forward to it … and please don’t ruin it so I have to come find you and make you pay for slaughtering my childhood happiness. :)

  • I think that it will be a wonderful film!

  • I played this game when I was 8 years old and still have a copy now that I am 21, I bought a DS just so I could always have it with me. Hands down my favorite game of all time. I will have a bodygasm when I see a confirmed cast and date. If it’s not too late, can I have a cameo?

    Suggestions for Cast
    Malcom McDowell as Atrus
    Gary Oldman as Sirrus
    Russell Crowe as Achenar
    The Stranger
    suggestions
Keifer Sutherland, Matt Damon, Sean Bean, Silar from Heroes

Can’t Wait!!!!!!! Myst is the most addictive game that I have ever played!

  • I am so excited. BoT was such an amazing chapter in the story of Myst. I can’t can’t to see this!! You two are going to an amazing job!

  • Companioncubereply

Is this for real? Have you cleared up all the leagal and copyright material with ubisoft and cyan worlds yet?

  • @Companioncube: Yes, this is real. They have Cyan’s full approval, and there is nothing to clear up with Ubisoft as they have no copyright claim to the material.

  • movie shmovie..
Will we who were 60s travelers’.. never have another non shooter, thrilling land, challenge like da Myst ?? ever?
we elders have $.. we who were addicted would buy a new myst-drug in a heartbeat..

  • My entire computer history was dictated by the myst series. Back in 1993 I bought my first computer and a copy of Myst when Riven came out my computer wasn’t fast enough to run it – so I upgraded the computer purely so I could run Riven. Same for Exile and Myst IV. After that whatever I had ran the subsequent games. But if a further Myst came out and I needed to upgrade then I would gladly do so. A few years ago some online friends and I tried to start a Myst Movie (using 3D animation) it was stopped by Cyan as apparently the rights had been sold. So with great anticipation I look forward to seeing the results. May you have all the fortune in the world to get this movie made. Thank you!

  • I love the Myst saga!! I want see the game and the novel made movie !

  • It’s definitly time for Myst to become a movie. I”m very excited! I’ve wondered for years what Myst would be like as a movie instead of the game.

It will be interesting to see what you do with it.

    I’m rooting for you!

    -Esther

  • Really good idea. Looking forward to the movie, good luck with the project.

    Best Regards
