For The Press - A Project Summary

Feb
01

As Rand Miller states at the beginning of his foreword, Project Passage is an unorthodox attempt to bring a film based on the Myst universe to fruition.

The working title “Project Passage” was assigned to the effort as we began taking our first steps toward our goal. We needed to ensure the complete secrecy of our work, and so, “Passage” was born.

Why complete secrecy? Well, there are good reasons for that, but to find out what they are you’ll just have to follow along as the journal unfolds…

I know deep down in my heart it will definitely be worth waiting for!

I fully support the idea of a movie. The best part of the myst games were the mini movies of the characters. I always looked forward to those moments. Many I replayed over again just to watch them. From the maniacal Saheedro to the devious brothers, to the fun loving Yeesha, and of course, the genius himself, Atrus. I can see this movie as something the world would really enjoy. The main focus is the beauty of the graphical world, tied together with the storyline from the games.

Movie making is an art form itself. Myst is the world’s best adventure games because of the beautiful graphics and the mystery of unraveling a storyline. I spent more time looking at the amazing graphics in addition to playing the game. When I first started playing Myst 4, Revelation, I was in tears as i was totally blown away by the incredible graphics and the the live action sequences. It brought the Myst worlds to life for me. A far cry from the slide show version of the first myst.

My hats to you who are willing to work on this. Do NOT let Hollywood screw this up! Let Cyan and You work together to make the movies as great as the games themselves!!

I take it that the working title comes from the name of the Myst short you worked on, “Passage to K’veer”?

Wow! This is amazing news! I’ve been craving more Myst for a long time. I’m really excited about this news!

I remember reading somewhere that Rand wasn’t going to act as Atrus anymore… I don’t know if that’s correct or not, but, if the movie’s plot includes him, wouldn’t it be great to see the Atrus we all know and love on the big screen? Maybe Rand could begin a new acting career! *chuckles* I’m so excited. I want to go play Riven or something now….

I can’t wait to see the movie. I hope this is going well on production. It be so nice to see something new about Myst even if it is not as a game. This makes me want to back and play through all the Myst games again. It be nice to see this on a big screen in a theater.

My brother and I are die-hard Myst fans since the beginning. As much as we love the games, we love the stories the most. The idea of a race of people who write links to fantastic worlds is too rich and exciting not to explore further. A movie would only add to this rich fantasy world, and maybe even invite more friends along this journey .

Having just finished Myst V (my only Myst completed hint-free!), I am thrilled to pieces that this won’t truly be “the end” of the Myst world for us fans. I had heard a while back that perhaps a Sci-Fi Channel ‘Myst’ series would be created, but a film (or several!) would be just as awesome. If you need someone to compose some music, I’m available ;) Good luck!
